For many future technologies, rare earths are indispensable. They can be found in mobile phones, wind turbines or energy saving lamps. Car manufacture also benefits from these enhancer metals, which can be found in different car parts, for example in the catalytic converter and the electric motor, in polishes and LED headlights as well as in the battery of hybrid and e-cars. The hightech metals are not as rare as their name suggests: They are more common than gold. At the same time there is an ongoing and vigorous search for recycling methods and substitute resources.
